Coccydynia refers to pain in the coccyx (tailbone), particularly when sitting on hard surfaces or transitioning from sitting to standing. Symptoms encompass localized tenderness, sharp or aching tailbone pain, and discomfort with bowel movements or prolonged sitting. Although rare, it notably impacts quality of life, especially when linked to childbirth, falls, or prolonged sitting.

Risk factors include female anatomy (wider pelvis), obesity, trauma to the tailbone, or repetitive pressure (e.g., cyclists).

Management ranges from ergonomic cushions, heat/ice, NSAIDs, and posture adjustment to physical therapy targeting pelvic floor muscles. When conservative measures fail, interventions like local steroid injections can aid in the treatment of this condition.
